 ISSUE

  • yum package update error:error was [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 404"
    # yum upgrade

  • yum update fails with error: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 403"

ENVIRONMENT

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 5.7 and onwards
  • Red Hat Subscription Manager(RHSM)
  • Red Hat Network(RHN) Classic

RESOLUTION

For system registered with RHSM

  • Unregister the system and re-register it using Subscription-manager by:-
# subscription-manager unsubscribe

# subscription-manager unregister

# subscription-manager clean
  • To Re-register the system to RHSM by:-
# subscription-manager register --autosubscribe

For system registered with RHN Classic

  • Re-sync the channel for which yum is throwing the said error by :-
# rhn-channel --remove -c <affected Channel name> --user username --password password
  • Verify that channel is not listed and then add the same channel again by :-
# yum repolist

# rhn-channel --add -c <affected Channel name> --user username --password password

# yum clean all
  • Verify that channel is now listed by :-
# yum repolist
  • An additional step mey be needed, unregistering from both classic and normal subscription service then registering again with the new method.

ROOT CAUSE

  • Affected channel may not be synced with the system properly. Re-registering or re-syncing the channel resolves the issue.
